This week ACE Team 3 separated into groups that focused on either the architecture, construction, or engineering aspect of the design project. Some students worked on making models in the model shop, while some brainstormed and tested ideas on Google SketchUp. Great work today, everyone! See you next week!

Today was a big day, because students presented their concepts for the building to the client! They had a week to put together a presentation to communicate their designs within a small group or individually. Power Construction was kind enough to show us around one of their current projects: Children’s Hospital in the near north loop. The project was especially interesting due to the large structural cantilevers, the sky garden, the hospital’s complex MEP requirements, some of the special medical equipment and the variety in the level of  progress in different areas

This week on Team 5 we met at Halvorson and Partners, toured their office, and got to see a little more about what engineers do every day.  We also had a brainstorming activity to start defining the program of our design project. This week, Team 5 went to the location of our design project.  The project site is located along the river near the intersection of Harrison & Wells.  After visiting the site, observing existing conditions, and taking photos, the team headed back to the office and completed a site analysis that will help to guide future design decisions.
