CHICAGO ACE MENTOR PROGRAM

ACE Mentor builds equity and inclusion.

Since the program was started in 2000, the Chicago ACE Mentor Program has awarded its participants over $2 million dollars in renewable four-year college scholarships and has provided over 250 paid summer internships. Through these opportunities and through the hundreds of hours of one-on-one mentoring they receive, the students gain a broad understanding of career possibilities, real-life and real-work experience, confidence in working with others, and enthusiasm for the part they can play in the industry.

ACE equips students, regardless of their ultimate career choice, to appreciate the built environment and thus to be better citizens of the world that we build for ourselves. Through ACE, students acquire a set of skills and experiences that are often cited as essential for the 21st-century workplace:

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving
  • Teamwork and collaboration
  • Creativity and innovation
  • Information technology application
  • Communication in a
    cross-cultural environment

Many former students of the program have gone on to get their degrees in architecture, construction, and engineering and are now back in Chicago working in the firms they interned with in high school.
