This week Team 3 focused on Sustainability and Site Planning.

The meeting started with a presentation on sustainable concepts and the LEED program, and included a case study of the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston, MA. This was followed by a brief introduction to Site Analysis, showing how to study local effects of pedestrian and vehicular traffic patterns, solar orientation, and proximity to public transit.

Two potential sites for this year’s project were presented. The team then split into two groups, completing a site analysis for each of the two proposed project sites. Working together with tracing paper, each group outlined the characteristics for their site and then presented their findings to the entire team, including one positive and one negative to each site.
