During week 2, team A and B went on site visits with Clune and Pepper.

Team A did start the day with a quick sketching activity led by Alan and Madelyn. Then, team A toured an office space near Clune Construction, 10 S Riverside Plaza. The project is set to be completed next year. Framing for the project is just going up, as well as some MEP aspects (IE-ductwork and electrical wiring). Lots of questions were fielded such as construction process, planning and unexpected scenarios which may arise. Site safety was also discussed.

Pepper Construction gave Team B a tour of the Chicago Children’s Theater by Wheeler Kearns , at 100 S Racine. This is set for completion towards the end of the year. The project is an adaptive reuse of a previous police station. It will be converted to house the children’s theater and classrooms for community classes. We were introduced to LEED as the building is slated for LEED Silver upon completion. Students were able to see exposed ductwork, plumbing, and lighting systems. We learned briefly about how to put a building together. We also did a sketch activity and a short presentation on what construction management is and what kind of work Pepper performs.
