Bridge Design/ Redesign and Construction Challenge
They are iconic signature pieces, marvels of engineering and construction ability…but, they also are invaluable to commerce, connectivity, and community…you must demonstrate:
- The importance of your site selection
- Why it is critical to undertake your plans
- What value does it provide
- Balance of functionality and design
- Impacts and approaches
- Lay out of the solutions as well as provide a cost estimate (per foot) to address the needs that is realistic and doable for the resources/financial support like available in the locale.
*The items highlighted in BOLD are the first couple items we’re going to try and justify. You’ve been given a general area for your site, but it is up to you to figure out through site analysis, do you want to build a new bridge or renovate an existing bridge? Do you want to renovate one bridge or all the bridges? What kind of bridge are you going to build? Pedestrian, Vehicular, Enclosed, Open, etc? Why? This week we will be analyzing our site’s potential to figure out what the best course of action is. Keep in mind the pin-up boards you worked on last week – what ideas do you think might actually work out on the site?
