Meet, Match, Map…
“The world needs you to change it… So please ask yourself: What would I do if I weren’t afraid? And then go do it.”
-Sheryl Sandberg
What: ACE Student Orientation
Where: Jones College Prep 700 S. State St. (Auditorium)
When: Thursday, November 5th, 5:30 – 7:30 pm
Why: Students and Mentors met for the first time on this day. Mentors distributed cards with certain Chicago buildings that were pictured and described. This “Ice Breaker” required everyone to walk around to find people with the same building. Once paired or grouped, we were able to develop a relationship with our Buddies! After introductions, the mentors revealed a giant map encompassing the larger Chicago area. The students were asked to pin a flag by where they live (or near their school) and their favorite place in the city. Navy Pier, the Loop, and along the lakeshore were popular locations. Everyone also got their yearbook picture taken for our lovely Student Directory…lovely for learning new names! Students can also find a Mentor Directory attached to this blog for reference. During this gathering, it was easy to see the array of personalities. It will definitely be a fun year with this large group! We expect greatness from all of you. The first step for success is showing up. Keep it up!
