The chosen one… divide and conquer…
“Rarely do we set the high bar one notch above what we think we can clear, and that’s what’s driving me here.”
-Henry Worsley, former Army officer from Fulham, London, who was on the brink of making Antarctic history with a solo, unsupported crossing
What: Movable Bridges Presentation + Dividing Responsibilities
Where: VOA Associates, 224 South Michigan Avenue, Suite 1400
When: Thursday, January 28, 5:00 – 7:00 pm
Why: The Dinner Presentation was a Structure Presentation on some bridge basics including Chicago Bridge history, movable bridges, and bridge disasters. We got to watch mind-blowing videos of bridges reaching resonance. Everything has a natural frequency. Resonance is when the natural frequency (vibrations) of the forces that act on a structure equal the natural frequency of the structure itself – causing the structure to fail. We discovered the importance of double checking one’s work. We are never working alone. Two heads are better than one!
After the presentation, we continued designing with the chosen bridge, State Street Bridge. We divided up into new groups based on a project component. The teams worked out some basic design concepts of design per their component. Groups include:

Responsibilities:
-Produce 3d model of existing bridge
-Formulate plan for preservation and integration with new bridge components
New Bridge Team
